Oliver and Shelby’s Wedding on the rooftop of the Columbus Renaissance
Remember these two? I was honored to photograph Oliver and Selby ‘s engagement session, and on a gorgeous summer day, the joy continued as I photographed their incredibly special wedding day.
Their wedding ceremony took place on the rooftop of the downtown Columbus Renaissance followed by a reception at the oh so full of character The Vault. Every detail in between was perfect. From Selby’s hair flowing perfectly on a stunning July day, to Oliver’s captivating smile that surely won her heart — it was an amazing day complete with several moments that are sure to take your breath away.
Oliver and Selby have watched each other grow up since the fourth grade! Yes, childhood sweethearts! Their love story is nothing short of a fairytale! Just wait until you hear how Oliver proposed!
Every bride can attest that it truly is all in the details, and Selby did not miss one.
Selby was one of those brides that makes you realize why you do what you do. She was captivating and calm – even on the biggest day of her life as she journeyed in to oneness with Oliver.
How the Couple Met!
Selby and Oliver met in 4th grade when Oliver switched schools and they ended up in the same class. Fun Fact: they were married in a school play, but never thought anything of it. They remained friends up until their senior year of high school. Finally, they pushed their friendship aside and started dating.
Selby and Oliver headed to different colleges after graduating high school but their relationship never dwindled. The years were long, as the couple spent more days apart than together.
When they’re not studying, you can find them doing anything outdoors like running, biking, hiking, or walking their dogs. They also enjoy scouting out the best food in the area and spending the night in watching movies.
Oliver’s Subtle Proposal
Oliver and Selby dated long distance all throughout college and planned on getting engaged after college. Oliver had every intention of waiting to propose until after graduation, but he couldn’t hold onto the ring any longer. He drove to Charleston, South Carolina where Selby attended college. Both Oliver and Selby have a love for fitness so Oliver convinced Selby to go for a run across the Ravenel Bridge. As they reached the bridge, Oliver suggested taking a photo so Selby whipped out her phone to snap the gorgeous view. Right next to her was Oliver on one knee holding an engagement ring.
The couple laughs when telling stories about the proposal because Selby was so focused on taking a photo that it took her a minute to realize Oliver was asking to marry her. Selby’s friends had been hiding taking photos the entire time! Isn’t that everyone’s dream? Having their friends capture every image of their perfect proposal!
Oliver and Selby’s Stunning Ceremony
Oliver and Selby exchanged vows on top of the rooftop of the Columbus Renaissance on a gorgeous day in July. Every forecast called for a chance of rain, but the entire day came and went without a single drop. Selby walked down the aisle in a white lace trumpet-style gown which glimmered as it caught every touch of light. Selby walked with her father hand in hand toward Oliver carrying an elegant eucalyptus bouquet. She grinned as her hair blew in the wind and saw Oliver for the first time.
Before walking down the aisle, Selby and Oliver wrote the sweetest of notes for each other. The way both of them smiled while reading the letters, only continued the entire day.
What were the couples favorite parts of the ceremony? Having the church bells ring during the ceremony and walking out as husband and wife!
Honestly, the couple was glowing the entire day, but the first time Oliver saw Selby walking down the aisle is an image I’ll never forget.
Mr & Mrs. Also doubling as models. Complete heart takeover with these two!
The Vault Reception
After the wedding ceremony, we headed over to The Vault which is one of the most stunning reception spaces I’ve ever photographed. The venue had stellar architecture and a gorgeous staircase which made a perfect first entrance as husband and wife. The reception started with touching speeches from the Bride and Groom’s family and friends. One of the most memorable speech was from the Bride’s father which included a letter from the Bride’s brother who unfortunately passed away. The speech made every guest in the room shed a tear!
The bride and groom’s family and friends filled the dance floor all night long. Watching the guests dance to “Come on Eileen” was one of the highlights!
What a send off?! Sparklers are always one of the fun ways to exit your big party but rain drops afterwards are even cooler!
It was such an honor to photograph this couple during their engagement as well as their wedding day! All the best to you, O + S!
